Answer to Problem 74A
Explanation of Solution
It is given that periodic table contains 26 element which are represented by alphabets.
The alphabets are to arranged in increasing order. The similarities of elements are given as:
A, C, G, K, Q, Y
B, F, J, P, X
V is its own family
From the above table, it is clear that properties of A, C, G, K, Q and Y are similar as they belong to same family or group. Similarly, properties of B, F, J, P and X are similar.
There is no other element in family where V is present thus, V is its own family.
This can also be interpreted from the structure that 1st period has two elements A and B, 2nd period has four elements C, D, E and F, 3rd period has four elements G, H, I and J, 4th period has six elements K, L, M, N, O and P, 5th period has eight elements Q, R, S, T, U, V, W and X and 6th period has two elements Y and Z
So, the periodic table contains 6 periods and 8 groups.
So, the periodic table contains 6 periods and 8 groups.
