Question
Chapter 11, Problem 10STP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation: The ground state orbital diagram for oxygen atom needs to be filled.
Concept interpretation:The oxygen atom has a total of 8 electrons and is one of the most abundant elements in nature.
Expert Solution & Answer

Answer to Problem 10STP
Explanation of Solution
The ground state of the oxygen atom shows the arrangement of electrons around the nucleus with lower energy levels. Oxygen has 8 electrons in which the first one sorbital has 2 electrons, 2s orbital has 2 electrons 2p orbital has 4 electrons.
Conclusion
In ground state orbital diagram of O, 1s and 2s orbitals are completely filled orbitals whereas 2p orbitals contains 4 electrons amongst them 2 are unpaired.
