The reaction referred to comes under the theme of β–oxidation of fatty acids.

Concept introduction:

In biochemistry and metabolism, beta oxidation is the catabolic degradation of fatty acid molecules, two carbon atoms, at a time the calter being released as acetyl coenzyme A CH3CO - SCoA . The remaining shortened fatty acid is always in the form of an acyl – CoA. The label ‘β’ is used to address that it is the ‘β’ carbon adjacent to the carbonyl, That is oxidised and degraded in the process.
