Concept explainers
The distance of image from the mirror and radius of curvature of mirror.
Answer to Problem 83GP
Solution:
Distance of image from the mirror can be found by magnification formula of mirror since the ratio of the object and the image is provided.
Explanation of Solution
Object distance from mirror is known and height of image to the ratio of height of object is also known.
Given:
Object distance from mirror (say)u= 18 m
Image height (hi)is half of the object height (ho)and real and inverted, that means hi = ho/2
Formula used:
(1)Magnification formula for mirror, m= height of image/height of object= - (v/u)
(2)Mirror formula for focal length
(3)Radius of curvature of mirror
Calculation:
Magnification of mirror
So, radius of curvature R = 2f= 2×6 = 12 m
