We must find critical angle of same piece of plastic when immersed in water. The critical angle will depend upon the refractive index of the medium in which the plastic piece is immersed.
Given: critical angle of plastic piece in air = ??c= 37·80
We know that refractive index of air is 1·00.
Refractive index of water is 1·33.
Formula used: (1) Snell’s law
(2) For total internal reflection angle of incidence in one medium should be equal to critical angle and angle of refraction in another medium would be 900 {
Calculation: So, for total internal reflection for the piece of plastic in air
So refractive index of plastic is 1·63.
Now for total internal reflection for plastic and water , when the plastic piece is immersed in water
Conclusion: So critical angle of same piece of plastic when immersed in water is 54·690.
