In the above equilibrium system the different colours are observed due to varying levels of NO2 in the system. The above reaction is exothermic, therefore at higher temperature the levels of NO2 increase and the reddish brown color deepens.
Explanation of Solution
Since the dimer cleavage of nitrogen dioxide is an endothermic reaction, on heating the system the equilibrium shifts to the right, increasing the amount of NO2 gas and darkening the reddish brown color.
The different colors observed in the above system are due to varying levels of NO2 gas.
