Concept explainers
Interpretation:
When a gas is burned in an automobile engine, the method of converting and releasing of energy in the gasoline needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Gasoline is a fuel which is used in automobile engines.
Answer to Problem 56A
Some amount of energy produced in the combustion of gasoline is used for working of engine and the rest amount is lost as heat to the surroundings.
Explanation of Solution
According to law of conservation of energy, energy neither can be created nor be destroyed. It can be converted from one form to another form of energy.
Thus when gasoline is burnt in an engine, the energy released by it is converted into work and heat.
Some amount of energy produced be combustion of gasoline is used for working of engine and the rest amount is lost as heat to the surroundings.
