Interpretation:
The benefits and drawbacks of wind energy needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
The conversion of mechanical energy of the winds into electricity is called wind energy.
Explanation of Solution
The primary method for conversion of winds to electricity is through windmills or turbines. These fans turn from the natural power of the wind and they run electricity generators which generate electricity. The benefits of wind energy are:
- It is a renewable source of energy
- It is a clean energy source.
- It gives a good energy output.
The drawbacks of wind energy are:
- It requires continuous flow of strong winds
- The windmills require large area for setup
The windmills convert mechanical energy to electrical energy by the use of a device called dynamo. The wind energy of high altitude is sometimes too strong to be harnessed and a windmill setup is impossible in that regions.
The benefits, drawbacks and limitations of wind energy have been explained.
