To calculate: The lateral area of the pentagonal right prism.

Answer to Problem 10PSC
The lateral area of the pentagonal right prism is
Explanation of Solution
Given information:
A perimeter of the scalene base of a pentagonal right prism is 17 and lateral edge of prism measures 10.
Formula used:
Lateral Area = Perimeter of base
Calculation:
To calculate the lateral area the length of one edge of the base and multiply it by 10 to get the area of one rectangle. Do this four other times, each time multiplying a different edge of the base by 10. When this is done, add the areas of all five rectangles to get the lateral area.
It would also be correct to add all the edges of the base together before multiplying by 10.This would give us the perimeter which could then be multiplied by 10 for the lateral area. Both methods work because either way, each edge is being multiplied by 10.
Lateral Area= Perimeter of base
