The meaning of tempered martensite should be determined.
Concept Introduction:
Martensite is formed in carbon steel when a process is cooled at a high cooling rate. Martensite is a very hard form of steel crystalline structure. Martensite transformation is the transformation which is a diffusionless reaction and takes place in a military manner. The trans takes place due to movements of the atom and the atom changes their position in a coordinated way. Martensite is formed in carbon steel by quenching. The martensite reaction begins during cooling and parent martensite becomes unstable.
