Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The relationship between bond length and strength needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Bond length is inversely proportional to bond strength.

Answer to Problem 10STP
When bond strength increases, then bond length decreases for a molecule.
Explanation of Solution
Short bond length shows strong bond strength of molecules. The bond length between two atom in a molecule depends on atomic size, orbital hybridization and electronic configuration of atoms in the molecules.
Thus, bond length is inversely proportional to bond strength.
Triple bond has less bond length as compared to single bonded molecule. Thus, the bond strength of triple bond is more than single bond.
