To find : the relative frequency for the raw data consisting of dog breeds which won World Cannie disc championship from 1975 to 2016 and describe the findings.
Answer to Problem 14E
Relative frequency bar is given below.
Dog breeds which won championship for highest number of times is Border collie which won 31% of times followed by mixed breed which won 29% of the times followed by Australian shepherd (21% of times). This perhaps means that Border collie, Australian shepherd and mixed breed dogs may have better chance of winning at championship as they are physical more fit, have more leaping ability, tracking capacity, reflexes excreta.
Explanation of Solution
Using the list of the data given, a frequency count of different dog breeds is found using raw data. Relative frequency is calculated by dividing actual frequency by total data points 42 for each breed.
Dog Breeds | Frequency | Relative frequency |
Australian shepherd | 9 | 9/42×100=21.43% |
Border collie | 13 | 13/42×100=30.95% |
Labrador retriever | 3 | 3/42×100=7.14% |
Mixed Breed | 12 | 12/42×100=28.57% |
Other purebred | 2 | 2/42×100=4.76% |
Whippet | 3 | 3/42×100=7.14% |
total | 42 | 100.00% |
Using first and third column of above table, we can draw relative frequency bar chart using column chart option in excel.
