Chapter 8.5, Problem 8.67ACB
Vulnerability of relying party Web sites. Refer to the Proceedings of the 5th AMC Workshop on Computers & Communication Security (October 2012) study of the vulnerability of relying party (RP) Web sites, Exercise 8.59 (p. 465). Recall that the Web sites were categorized as server-flow or client-flow Web sites. The researchers want to estimate the true difference between the proportion of server-flow Web sites vulnerable to attack and the corresponding proportion of client-flow Web sites with a 95% confidence interval. They want to know how many Web sites of each type they need to sample to obtain an estimate that is no more than .15 from the true difference.
- a. Identify the parameter of interest for this study.
- b. What is the desired confidence level?
- c. What is the desired sampling error?
- d. Find the
sample size required to obtain the desired estimate. Assume n\ = n2. - e. Repeat part d, but now assume that twice as many Web sites will be sampled from the population of server-flow Web sites as from the population of client-flow Web sites, i.e., assume n1 = 2n2.

Can you conclude that the monthly means differ between the two types of trucks?
The article “Valuing Watershed Quality Improvements Using Conjoint Analysis” (S. Farber and B. Griner, Ecological Economics, 2000:63–76) presents the results of a mail survey designed to assess opinions on the value of improvement efforts in an acid-mine degraded watershed in Western Pennsylvania. Of the 510 respondents to the survey, 347 were male. Census data show that 48% of the target population is male. Can you conclude that the survey method employed in this study tends to oversample males? Explain.

- Cash flow and profits are both crucial aspects of a business. Profit is the surplus revenue after deducting business expenses. Cash flow is the total amount of cash moving in and out of your business. For a business to be successful in the long term, it needs to generate profits while also operating with positive cash flow. During the Covid-19 pandemic, however, of a random sample of 199 auditors, 104 indicated some measure of agreement with this statement: cash flow is more important to keep the business operating on a day-to-day basis. a) Investigate the claim that one-half of the members of this population would agree with this statement. Also, find and interpret the p-value of this test. b) Find the probability of accepting the claim with a 10%-level test if, in fact, 60% of all auditors agree that cash flow is an important indicator to keep the business operating on a day-to-day basis.arrow_forward19. Youquality improvement team is located at a metropolitan hospital that serves a large population. The quality improvement team is conducting a study pertaining to readmissions, smoking and number of drugs administered to admitted patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). The team is interested in reducing the number of readmissions among patients discharged with a principal diagnosis of CHF. The team believes that the high admission rate is due to the difficulty that these patients have in controlling the number of drugs that they typically take. The team believes that by improving patient/family education regarding drug administration, the readmission rate could be reduced. Thus, they have developed the screen “CHF patients taking three or more drugs” to identify these patients before discharge.
