Facility layout study. Facility layout and material flowpath design are major factors in the productivity analysis of automated manufacturing systems. Facility layout is concerned with the location arrangement of machines and buffers for work-in-process. Flowpath design is concerned with the direction of manufacturing material flows (e.g., unidirectional or bidirectional; Lee, Lei, and Pinedo. Annals of Operations Research, 1997). A manufacturer of printed circuit boards is interested in evaluating two alternative existing layout and flowpath designs. The output of each design was monitored for 8 consecutive working days. The data (shown here) are saved in the file. Design 2 appears to be superior to Design 1. Do you agree? Explain fully.

- A farmer has recently acquired a 110 hectares piece of land. He has decided to grow Wheat and barley on that land. Due to the quality of the sun and the region's excellent climate, the entire production of Wheat and Barley can be sold. He wants to know how to plant each variety in the 110 hectares, given the costs, net profits and labor requirements according to the data shown below: Variety Cost (Price/Hec) Net Profit (Price/Hec) Man-days/Hec Wheat 100 50 10 Barley 200 120 30 The farmer has a budget of US$10,000 and an availability of 1,200 man-days during the planning horizon. In addition, the farmer would like to get a profit of at least $3000. Generate the mathematical model for the optimal usage of land area to produce wheat and barley. Using graphical method to optimize land usage, how many hectares are to be used for wheat and barley.arrow_forward3arrow_forwardCreate necessary columns of data necessary to solve the problem a. A group of 25 engineers having widely differing amounts of experience (measured in months of experience) was given the same control design project. The results of the study are given in the following table with y 5 1 if the project was successfully completed in the allocated time and y 5 0 if the project was not successfully completed. a. Determine whether experience is associated with the probability of completing the task. b. It implies that larger firms very frequently implement supply chain and use advanced technologies to integrate supply chain partners. A study has reported part of the relationship between types of firm (Private and Public) and supply chain management implementation and between size of a firm (small to large, in terms of number of employees) and supply chain management implementation in International Journal of Business Modelling and Supply Chain Management (Vol. 5, 2013). The following table shows number of different sized private and public firms participated in this study Private Public Total ≤ 24 employees 20 1 21 25-49 17 1 18 50-99 14 1 15 100-199 9 0 9 ≥ 200 employees 23 9 32 Total 83 12 95 Two following events are defined: A: {A firm participated in this study is Private} B: {A firm participated in this study has employees more than 49} Find a. - A manager of inventory systems believes that inventory models are important decision- making tools. The manager often uses an Economic Order Quantity policy, but has never considered a backorder model, because the company has always treated backorders as a bad practice to be avoided. However, with upper management's continued pressure to cut costs, you have been asked to analyze the economics of a backorder policy for some products. A specific product has annual demand of 800 units, an order cost of $150/order, an annual holding cost of $3/item, and a backorder cost of $20/item. Your task it to determine the annual savings, when compared with an EOQ model, that backorders would allow. - A manufacturing company has three processing lines. Each processing line combines various raw materials to produce the same output, Y. One of the processing lines can combine units of input (X) to produce units of output (Y) such that there is a linear relationship between X and Y. The Chief Executive Officer wants the output model to be estimated for this processing line. Given the values of X and Y (in thousands of units) in the table below, and as the Director of Data Management, you are to: x 5 7 2 8 4 8 12 6 14 8 Determine the extent to which output changes as the input change and interpret your result. Find the intercept of the output model and interpret it. Write down the equation of the line of best fit for output.
