The explanation for the cases where an enzyme will attack one particular stereoisomer and not its enantiomer.

Introduction:

Enzymes are the biocatalysts that act to increase the rate of biochemical reactions. They can act under specific conditions of temperature and pH (potential of hydrogen). Stereoisomers have the same molecular formula but different three-dimensional structures in space. The enantiomers are stereoisomers whose mirror images do not superimposeon each other. They show chirality due to the presence of the asymmetric (chiral) carbon. Enzymes can act only when a specific substrate is present.
