red marrow
yellow marrow
articular cartilage
endosteum
Which type of ossification process begins with a hyaline cartilage model that has two ossification centers called the primary and secondary ossification center. In this process the cartilage model is replaced with bone except at the articular cartilages and the epiphyseal plates. An example of a bone that develops by this process is the humerus.
growth of the articular cartilage
growth from a hyaline cartilage model
intramembranous ossification
endochondral ossification
epiphyseal growth
One of the more common fractures in children and adolescents is an epiphyseal fracture,in which the epiphysis of a long bone separates from the diaphysis. Explain why this would be more common in children than in adults?
