The osteons are the functional unit of a long bone. An osteon is comprised of concentric rings of the matrix, which covered a central tunnel and contains osteocytes. The lamellae are thin, concentric sheets which are about 3 micrometers to 7 micrometers thick.

Several sites were then infiltrated with 1% Xylocaine solution with Epinephrine to help control bleeding from stab wounds to be made at these sites.
