Concept explainers
(a)
To explain and identify the flaws you see in the proposed design for this experiment.
(a)

Explanation of Solution
In this study, the researchers wanted to study that which of the two brands A or brand B of electric razor shaves closer.
There are some flaws in the experiment that is confounding variable of left hand vs. right hand. The dominant hand of the man may have an effect on the closeness of the shave more so than the quality of the razor. Thus these flaws will affect the result of the study.
(b)
To describe how you would design the experiment and explain how your design addresses each of the problems you identified in part (a).
(b)

Explanation of Solution
In this study, the researchers wanted to study that which of the two brands A or brand B of electric razor shaves closer.
The design we will use is the matched pairs design but randomly determine which razor brand shaves which face side. That is,
Random Assignment Randomization: label the men
We will use this design because this eliminates the confounding variable of dominant hand because both razors are being tested on both sides of the face.

- Please help me with this statistics questionarrow_forwardPlease help me with the following statistic questionarrow_forwardTo evaluate the success of a 1-year experimental program designed to increase the mathematical achievement of underprivileged high school seniors, a random sample of participants in the program will be selected and their mathematics scores will be compared with the previous year’s statewide average of 525 for underprivileged seniors. The researchers want to determine whether the experimental program has increased the mean achievement level over the previous year’s statewide average. If alpha=.05, what sample size is needed to have a probability of Type II error of at most .025 if the actual mean is increased to 550? From previous results, sigma=80.arrow_forward
