Concept explainers
To identify the experimental units and the treatments.
Answer to Problem 50E
The children aged 6-8 are the experimental units and the sealant and the fluoride varnish applied to the children’s teeth are the treatments.
Explanation of Solution
In an experiment, children aged 6-8 were randomly assigned to a control group, a group in which sealant was applied and reapplied periodically for 36 months and a group in which fluoride varnish was applied and reapplied periodically for 42 months.
Thus, the experimental units are subjects described by the set of data. Therefore we have the children aged 6-8 are the experimental units. Whereas, the treatments are what we imposed onto the subjects. Thus, we have that the sealant and the fluoride varnish applied to the children’s teeth are the treatments.
