Answer to Problem 25E
Cluster sample
Explanation of Solution
Given information:
To analyse the kind of sampling method
TYPES OF SAMPLES
The Simple random sampling uses a
The Stratified random sampling draws simple random samples from independent subgroups (stratum).
The Cluster sampling divides the population into non-overlapping subgroups (clusters) and some of these subgroups are then in the sample. Systematic random sampling is letting every kthindividual be in the sample (k an integer).
A voluntary response sample is a sample for which the subjects can decide if they want to be in the sample or not.
Convenience sampling uses a subgroup from the population that is conveniently chosen.
SOLUTIONThe given sample is a random sample of 5 blocks and every family in those blocks are surveyed.
Thus note that the subgroups are the blocks, while the entire selected subgroup is in the sample (since every family in the block is surveyed) and thus the sample has to be a cluster sample.

Answer to Problem 25E
It involve finding and going to many different houses scattered out at different locations.
Explanation of Solution
Given information:
Suppose there are 65 blocks in the subdiviaon. Use technology or Table D to select 5 blocks to be sampled.
The company most likely used cluster sampling for convenience purposes, as it is more time and cost-efficient than an SRS or a random sample with blocking, which would both involve finding and going to many different houses scattered out at different locations.
