Concept explainers
To find: The sampling method and explain the ways in which the method involved could lead to bias.
Answer to Problem 1.1CYU
Convenience sampling.
Explanation of Solution
Convenience sampling is a type of sampling where the observations that are taken into a sample are very convenient for a researcher to find. It does not involve any probability method for selecting a sample.
Here, company inspector checks only the 10 oranges from the top of each available crate. Since, inspector is deciding whether to buy oranges or not according to his convenience. Thus, it could be said that convenience sampling is involved.
Convenience sampling is a method of sampling in which sampling biasness is the highest because it is based purely on the judgment of the researcher. So, the sample does not give reliable results.
