Concept explainers
(a)
To explain: The strata based on the stratified random sampling.
(a)
Answer to Problem 22E
It allows us to take into account the opinion based on the type of room if the strata are the type of rooms.
Explanation of Solution
Given information:
On choosing a stratified random sample might be preferable to an SRS in this case.
The Stratified random sampling draws simple random samples from independent subgroups. The Simple random sampling uses a sample in which every individual has an equal chance of being chosen. A simple random sample then requires us to select 120 guests from more than 1200 guests.
A stratified random sample will require us to take smaller samples from the independent subgroups and this would then allow us to take into account a different variable (on which the different subgroups are based).
Thus a stratified random sample is better, because it allows us to take into account the opinion based on the type of room if the strata are the type of rooms.
(b)
To find: The cluster based on the random sampling.
(b)
Answer to Problem 22E
Floor level
Explanation of Solution
The Stratified random sampling draws simple random samples from independent subgroups.
The Cluster sampling divides the population into non-overlapping subgroups and some of these subgroups are then in the sample.
A cluster sample would be simple, because if take the subgroups to be the floors, then only need to select a few floors instead of rooms spread all over the hotel.
