Some bicycles have electric generators that are made to turn when the bike wheel turns. These generators provide energy for the bike’s lamp. Will a cyclist coast farther if the lamp connected to the generator is turned off? Explain.
To explain: the cyclist coast further if the lamp connected to the generator is turned off.
Answer to Problem 34A
The cyclist will coast farther as the energy in will be equal to the energy out .
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The energy is always conserved .
There is no energy creation or be demolition, it can convert from one form to another. As the cyclist paddle the wheel, the electricity is generated as the mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy. The lamp will light up using electrical energy. If the light lamp is turned off then the cyclist will coast farther as he gets more energy as the loss of energy in lighting the bulb is occuring.
Conclusion:
The energy conversation will coast farther.
