Chapter 37, Problem 12A

What does a step-up transformer step up—voltage, current, or energy?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

To Explain: The type of transformation (voltage, current or energy) done by step − up transformer.

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

In a step-up transformer, the turn’s number in primary coil is less than the number of turns in secondary coil.

Voltage through a coil is directly proportional to number of turns in a coil. As number of turns is more in secondary coil, output voltage is more than input voltage. It means voltage is stepped up.

Conclusion:

Step − up transformer is used to step up voltage.
