What does a transformer actually transform—voltage, current, or energy?
To explain: The type of transformation done by transformer.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Transformer is a device which is used to increase or decrease the voltage level in a circuit.
Transformers work on the principle of mutual induction. There are two cores in a transformer − primary and secondary. Input voltage is in primary circuit and output voltage is in secondary circuit. It can be used to increase or decrease voltage level for alternating current only. Due to change in flux, EMF is induced in secondary circuit and amount of EMF induced depends on number of turns of the coil. Hence, by varying number of turns, voltage can be increased or decreased.
Conclusion:
Transformer is used to actually transform voltage.
