Why is an echo weaker than the original sound?
To Explain: Echo is weaker than the original sound.
Answer to Problem 37A
Echo is weaker than the original sound because sound (like any wave) spreads as it travels and is diluted with distance.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:Angle of reflection is equals to angle of incidence. Also, the law of reflection applies to both, totally reflected waves and partially reflected.
Explanation: An echo is reflection of sound. It occurs when sound bounces off things. Sound is a form of energy that can be heard and travels in the waves.
According to the question, an echo reflected back to a person after striking another surface. Though, when striking on surface, only some of the sound waves are reflected and rest are absorbed into the surface. Consequently, the intensity of the sound returning to a person will be weaker as compared to the original sound.
Conclusion: An echo be made up of sound waves.
