Concept explainers
To Explain: The motorist has difficulty driving on a rainy night.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
When the light is reflected from a smooth surface at definite angles, this phenomenon is known as a specular reflection and the diffuse reflection is that type of reflection in which light gets reflected from the surface at many angles rather than at just one angle.
Explanation:
Due to the diffuse reflection on the dry roadway, the light reflected in different-different directions which allow the motorist to clear visibility. But, due to the wet roadway, the road becomes smooth. Due to specular the reflections off the road, the motorist will see only certain parts of the road. This results in reduced visibility to the motorist on rainy nights.
Conclusion:
The motorist will see only certain parts clearly due to the specular reflection. On rainy nights the visibility reduced.
