Concept explainers
To Explain: Whether light and sound waves follow the law of reflection or not.
Answer to Problem 11A
Both light waves and sound waves follow the law of reflection.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
As the light reflects when it strikes to the smooth surface, the sound also reflects.
When the light or sound strikes to the smooth surface, these will follow the law of reflection which states that the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. The reflection of sound is called an echo. As the sound wave strikes to the polished surface it will reflect at the same angle as it strikes to the surface, this shows that sound follows the law of reflection.
Conclusion:
The echo is the single reflection of the sound whereas the reverberation is the multiple reflections of sound.
