Chapter 24.5, Problem 2RC
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: It should be identified the reduced form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide.

Concept Introduction:

Proteins: Proteins are condensation polymers formed from amino acids. Proteins provide structural support, help organisms move, store and transport chemicals from one area to another.

Lipids: Lipids are the important type of compound found in organism.

They are the principle of components of the cell membrane and a repository of chemical energy in the form of fat.

In addition to the some of the chemical messenger called hormones are lipids.

Polar compound tends to be soluble in polar solvent such as water. But nonpolar compound are soluble in non-polar solvent but they tends not to be soluble in organic solvent.

Fluid – mosaic model:

A cell membrane is made up primarily of a phospholipid bilayer in which are embedded cholesterol, other lipids and proteins . Movements whining a layer occurs, but movement from one side of the bilayer to the other is rare.

The reaction for “activation” of a fatty acid (RCOO−), ATP + CoA + RCOO−⇌ RCOOCoA + AMP + PPi has ΔG°′ = +4.6 kJ · mol−1. What is the thermo dynamic driving force for this reaction?
The hydrolysis of pyrophosphate to orthophosphate drives biosynthetic reactions such as DNA synthesis. In Escherichia coli, a pyrophosphatase catalyzes this hydrolytic reaction. The pyrophosphatase has a mass of 120 kDa and consists of six identical subunits. A unit of activity for this enzyme, U, is the amount of enzyme that hydrolyzes 10 umol of pyrophosphate in 15 minutes. The purified enzyme has a Vnax of 2800 U per milligram of enzyme. When (S] >> KM, how many micromoles of substrate can 1 mg of enzyme hydrolyze per second? Vnax = umol -s. mg- If cach enzyme subunit has one active site, how many micromoles of active sites, or (E]r, are there in 1 mg of enzyme? (Er = umol - mg-
For a given acid HA, it was determined that at pH 6.0 the concentration of the conjugate base [A] was 0.075 M and the acid [HA] was 0.025 M. What percent of this acid is ionized at pH 6.0? What is the pKa of this acid? What pH would this acid be 50% lonized?
