Concept explainers
The Apprentice contestants’ performance ratings. The Apprentice is a popular TV show that gives the winning contestant the opportunity to work with a famous successful business leader (e.g., Donald Trump in the United States and Lord Alan Sugar in the United Kingdom). A study was conducted to investigate what separates the successful candidates from the losers (Significance, April2015). Data were collected for 159 contestants on the United Kingdom’s version of The Apprentice over a 1 0-year period. (For the first 6 years in the study, the prize was a 100,000 pounds per year job with Lord Sugar; in the last 4 years, the prize was a business partnership with Sugar.) Each contestant was rated (on a 20-point scale) based on their performance. In addition, the higher education degree earned by each contestant-no degree, first (bachelor's) degree, or postgraduate degree- was recorded. These data (simulated, based on statistics reported in the article) are saved in the APPREN file. Use statistical software to construct a graph that describes the highest degree obtained by the 159 contestants. Interpret the results.
