Concept explainers
To explain: The difference in the position on the film of mass spectrometer for a two ions .
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Mass spectrometer instruments separate electrically charged particles on the basis of masses. It is used to measure the masses of the isotopes.
The two ions having same mass will have same velocity. The charge on the ions is same. At the end of the half circle path, the singly ionized show twice the distance than the doubly ionized ion.
Conclusion:
The doubly ionized is half the distance than the singly spaced ion.
