The functional group which is always present in a carbohydrate molecule has to be predicted

Concept introduction:

A carbohydrate is either a polyhydroxy aldehyde or a polyhydroxy ketone.  Upon hydrolysis, a carbohydrate yields polyhydroxy aldehydes or polyhydroxy ketones.  Example of polyhydroxy aldehyde is glucose and example of polyhydroxy ketone is fructose.
