(iv) Consider a steady flow mixing process. Under what conditions will the energy transported
into the control volume by the incoming streams be equal to the energy transported out of
it by the outgoing stream?
air at 30 ℃ and RH 40% flowed to the heating coil so that the dry bulb temperature was 80 ℃. then air is used to dry it by passing it into a pile of granulated pet food. The air coming out of the pile has a dry ball temperature of 60 ℃. This air is then reheated to 80 ℃ and flown into the pile of other pet food. the air coming out of the second dryer is in a saturated state. Describe the processes that occur from ambient air to saturated air from desiccant 2 in a psychometric diagram. determine the amount of water discharged in the first and second dryers per kg of dry air.
a. first dryer ... (kg water / kg air)
b. second dryer ... (kg water / kg air)
Problem Statement
A piston-cylinder device contains air which is initially at 280 K and 90 kPa. It undergoes
two processes. The first process is isothermal and the second is adiabatic. The final temper-
ature is 1,300 K and the final pressure is 240 MPa. The total work transfer is -1000 kJ/kg.
Calculate the total heat transfer (in kJ/kg) and the pressure at which the isothermal process
ends and the adiabatic process begins. The ideal gas constant for air is 0.287 kJ/(kg K).
