Introduction:

The citric acid cycle is a metabolic process by which acetyl-CoA (coenzyme A) is oxidized to give oxaloacetate and carbon dioxide molecules. The acetyl-CoA can be derived from the glucose, fat, snd proteins. This process results in the generation of NADH2 (reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), FADH2 (reduced flavin adenine dinucleotide), and GTP (guanosine triphosphate) as high energy compounds. The NADH2 and FADH2 arethen converted into ATP molecules through oxidative phosphorylation.
