The given sides of the triangle are the sides of obtuse angle triangle.

Explanation of Solution

Given information:

The sides of triangle are 8, 14, 17

Let ABC be a triangle.

Also let a=8, b=14 and c=17

  $\begin{array}{l}{c}^2>a^2+b^2\\ {17}^2>8^2+{14}^2\\ 289>64+196\\ 289>260\end{array}$

Therefore from the converse of Pythagoras theorem $c^2>a^2+b^2$ then triangle ABC is obtuse triangle.
