Interpretation:

Titanium alloy with cylindrical structure has a modulus of elasticity of 107 GPa. The diameter of this alloy is 3.8 mm. It experiences only the deformation of elastic when the 2000 N tensile load is applied to it. The specimen is to be determined for maximum allowable elongation of 0.42 mm.

Concept introduction:

Concept of stress will be used which applied to the given specimen. The formula of stress is given as-

σ=FA

Here,

F = force acting on the material

A = area of material

σ = stress applied to the material

Concept of strain can be used to estimate the elongation in the alloy. The formula is given as-

ε=Δll

Here,

e = strain

Δl = change in length due to deformation

l = initial length of material

Concept of modulus of elasticity will be used. The formula elasticity modulus is given as-

E=stressstrain
