Chapter 5, Problem 17P
Summary Introduction
To analyze:
The expected frequency for given gametes (a to d) by referring to a table.
Dihybrid genotype | Recombination frequency | Gamete genotype |
DE/de | 8% | De |
AD/ad | 28% | ad |
DEF/def | E – F 24% D – E 8% | dEf |
B - D 18% D – E 8% | Bde |
Introduction:
Recombination frequency is a measure of genetic linkage. It is used in creating a genetic linkage map. Recombination frequency (r) can be defined as the rate of occurrence of recombination between a pair of linked gene.
It can be calculated using this formula –
r = Total number of recombinant
Total number of progeny
According to the given problem, 1 map unit corresponds to 1% recombination.
Frequency of specific gamete formation can be calculated from the map of linked genes.
