Chapter 45, Problem 3ITD
Summary Introduction
To review:
The overall risk of cervical cancer, associated with the infection of cancer-causing HPV of any type from this graph. The graph given below has the cumulative incidence rate of cervical cancer correlating with the HPV status. It is studied in 20,514 women whose ages range from 16 years to older.
Introduction:
The cancer-causing cells are the abnormal cells that have lost the ability of controlled division. Cervical cancer occurs in the cervix of the human female. Cervical cancer is very common in women. The HPV (Human papillomavirus infection) is most commonly transmitted through infection.

Laura Brennan, a human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine advocate and cervical cancer casualty, was diagnosed with HPV-16-associated
cervical cancer at age 24. In 2018, U.S. health officials extended the allowable age for the HPV vaccine to 45.
Determine which patients will have the greatest chance of protection from the Gardasil vaccine, which prevents infections of nine
strains of HPV including HPV-16 and HPV-18 and five additional types of cancer-causing HPV as well as strains HPV-6 and HPV-11 that
cause genital warts. Recall that vaccines train the body's immune system to recognize a particular infection (see figure).

An epidemiological study of 500 men between the ages of 20 and 65 years of age revealed a correlation between an increased consumption of tomatoes and a lower incidence of prostate cancer. The results of this study do not prove that increased tomato consumption lowers the risk for prostate cancer because:
A) The study shows a correlation between two factors that may or may not actually have an effect on each other.
B) The study does not show how tomatoes lower prostate cancer risk.
C) A single study cannot provide enough evidence to conclusively prove an effect.
D) All of the above are valid reasons.
In 2016, 8625 individuals lived in the community of Viken. Eight per cent were women. Of these, 52 had womencervical cancer.Calculate the point prevalence of cervical cancer in women in the community of Viken and describe in your own wordswhat the prevalence in this case implies.
