Summary Introduction
Antibodies (immunoglobulins or Igs) are Y-shaped glycoproteins and are produced by immune cells to protect the body from pathogens, like bacteria, viruses, and other harmful chemicals. Antibodies are considered as the major components of humoral immunity. Igs are classified into five types, namely IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, and IgM. In general antibodies act by three mechanisms, such as neutralizes foreign antigens, complement activation, and facilitates phagocytosis.
