Answer to Problem 4PP

Symbol of isotope of hydrogen with neutron one =H11 .

Symbol of isotope of hydrogen with neutron two =H12 .

Symbol of isotope of hydrogen with neutron three =H13 .

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

  HZA is the symbolic format of hydrogen

Where,

  A : Atomic mass number

  Z : Atomic number

The number of protons is equal to the Z .

The number of neutrons is AZ .

For the isotope of hydrogen have neutron zero, The atomic number of hydrogenis 1 ,

  Z=1

The number of neutrons is given by,

  AZ

Substituting the value in above expression,

Number of neutrons =AZ

  0=A1

Rearranging the above expression to get A ,

  A=0+1A=1

Symbol of isotope of hydrogen is written as,

  AZA

Putting the values of A and Z in above symbolic form,

  H11

For the isotope of hydrogen have neutron one,

  Z=1

Number of neutrons =AZ

  1=A1

Rearranging the above expression to get A ,A=1+1A=2

Symbol of isotope of hydrogen is written as,

  HZA

Putting the values of A and Z in above symbolic form,

  H12

For the isotope of hydrogen have neutron two,

  Z=1

Number of neutrons =AZ

  2=A1

Rearranging the above expression to get A ,A=1+2A=3

Symbol of isotope of hydrogen is written as,

  HZA

Putting the values of A and Z in above symbolic form,

  H13

Conclusion:

Symbols of three isotopes of hydrogen having neutrons zero, one, and two in the nucleus are H11,H12,H13 .
