Concept explainers
To describe: Properties and uses of alcohol.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Alcohols are formed when hydrogen atoms are substituted by OH group in a hydrocarbon.
Alcohols are substituted hydrocarbons. They have a greater boiling point than hydrocarbons. They are soluble in water and are weak acids. The physicals and chemical properties of alcohols depend on a number of factors like molecular mass, number of OH groups, length of the chain, etc. Alcohols are used as rubbing alcohols for relieving muscle pain. They are also used as solvents and disinfectants.
Conclusion:
Ethanol
