Introduction:
After extraction, the crude oil is separated into fractions that have similar boiling points in a fractioning tower.
The bottom of the tower is heated at a very high temperature. Few hydrocarbons that have lower boiling points rise up and then condense. Hence hydrocarbons that are collected at the top have the least boiling points.
Conclusion:
Few carbon atoms with low boiling point are collected at the top of the fractioning tower.
