Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The triglycerides from animal and plant sources are generally saturated or unsaturated needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Lipid − the hydrophobic and insoluble molecules in water are termed as lipid. Lipid are consisting of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
Triglycerides are the type of fat. They are the common type of fat present in the human body. They come from butter, oils, etc.
Answer to Problem 39A
The triglycerides from the animal sources are generally saturated.
The triglycerides from the plant sources are generally unsaturated.
Explanation of Solution
Saturated fat − the solid substances at room temperature with no double bonds in their chemical structures are known as saturated fats. The structure of saturated fat contains as many hydrogen atoms and they are saturated with hydrogen. They are mostly found in animal products such as butter, animal oils, etc.
Unsaturated fat − these types of fats are mostly present in the plants and animals. The structure of unsaturated fats consists of one or more than one double bonds. The unsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature, such as oils linseed oil, corn oil, etc.
The fats obtained from the animal are mostly saturated type of fats, while the unsaturated fats are generally coming from the plant sources.
