The simple sugars are classified as monosaccharides contains six-carbon. In the given structure the carbon mark from 2 to 6 is representing the hydroxy group. When more than three alcohol group present in the same structure is termed as polyhydroxy, and at 1 carbon is representing the aldehyde group in the glucose sugar, which is representing the carbonyl group.
The sugar structures are different due to the presence of carbonyl group as aldehyde and ketone group, but they contain the hydroxyl group more than three so it is termed as a polyhydroxy group.
