Chapter 20, Problem 15CYU
Summary Introduction
To review:
The location of ductus arteriosus and its role in the shunting of blood flow in a pulmonary circuit.
Introduction:
Pulmonary circulation system requires a very little amount of blood. The fetus is not exposed to the external environment hence, the fetus does not breathe. There is no gaseous exchange that takes place in the fetal lungs thus, the blood supply in the fetal lungs is also limited. The placenta serves as the exchange site for respiratory gases between the maternal and fetal blood.
