Lipids are the organic compounds, which are fatty acids or the derivatives of fatty acids. They are insoluble in water but are soluble in non-polar organic solvents. Membranes are made up of lipids. These protect the organelles from the surroundings. The lipid membranes are selective in nature due to the bilayer arrangement of the lipids.
