Question
Chapter 12, Problem 26RE
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The role of puromycin as an inhibitor of protein synthesis is to be discussed.
Concept introduction:
Protein synthesis is a translational process in which proteins are formed from the mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid). It requires three components of RNA for its functioning, which are rRNA (ribosomal RNA), tRNA (transfer RNA), and mRNA.
Inhibitors of protein synthesis disrupt the process of protein formation. These protein synthesis inhibitors work at the ribosomal level and can, also, be broadly categorized as an antibiotic.
