The cloned genes are used for a variety of purposes and in order to facilitate this, specialized vectors have been engineered. These vectors are synthesized to optimize the cloned gene expression in the host or for moving the cloned genes between different host organisms. These types of vectors are termed as expression and shuttle vectors respectively. Both the shuttle vector and the expression vectors are the constructed plasmid vectors which possess different characteristics in the cloned genes. The shuttle vector has the ability to stably maintain and replicate in two different (unrelated) host organisms. The expression vector possesses the regulatory sequences that allow the manipulation of gene expression of the cloned genes.
