3. A large beverage company would like to use statistical process control to monitor a new
bottlingmachine designed to load liquid into 350-ml bottles. This company knows that
the exact amountthe machine places in each bottle can naturally vary by a small amount
but does not have any more specific information about the process. The company
operated this new machine under careful supervision, confident that the machine was
under complete control, for 7 hours. Each hour, a sample of nine bottles was taken off
the line and the amount of liquid in each bottle was carefully measured. This is the
resulting data:

Instead, the surgeon took the wrong one off. As in many wrong site surgerycases, there were a series of mistakes that led to the wrong leg be ing amputated. The incorrect leg was listed in a number of key places including the blackboard in the operating room, the hospital's computer system, and the operating room schedule. The staff had sterilized and prepped the wrong leg for surgery before the surgeon, Dr. Rolando Sanchez, appeared in the operating room. The doctor's defence later was that both legs were unhealthy and would have to be amputated in any event. He was fined $10,000 and received a six-month medical license suspension. A range chart was developed that had LCLR = 0 and UCLR = 2.50. Similarly, an average chart was developed with the average range from the five samples, with LCL = 15.0 and UCL = 24.0. The ranges for each of the five samples were 1.75, 2.42, 2.75, 2.04, and 2.80, respectively. The values of the sample average for each sample were 19.5, 22.3, 17.4, 20.1, and 18.9, respectively. What can you tell management from this analysis? The process variability is out of control, and we cannot make a statement about the process average. The process variability is out of control, but the process average is in control. The process variability and the process average are out of control. The desired speed of its model SF2000 is 6 inches per second. Any deviation from this value distorts pitch and tempo, resulting in poor sound quality. The company sets the quality specification to 6 ± 0.29 inch per second because an average customer is likely to complain and return the tape if the speed is off by more than 0.29 inch per second. The cost per return is $40. The repair cost before the tape is shipped, however, is only $2 per tape. Required: 1. Compute L(x) if x is 6.12 inches per second. 2. Estimate the tolerance for the firm to minimize its quality-related cost (loss). (Round your answers to 4 decimal places.) 1. L(x) 2. Tolerance incharrow_forward

Fewer than 5% of all empolyees received the lowest category of ratings, and there was no recognition program in place to reward high achievers. Sales of computer hardware, and software started to decline so drastically from week to week, month to month and year to year in many outlets but they couldn't establish the reason behind the whole saga.
