The order of reactivity in nucleophilic substitution reactions: phosphate>thiols>esters>amides, based on the pKa values. pKa values are given as: phosphoric acid- 1×10-3, hydrogen sulfide- 1×10-7, alcohols- 1×10-17 and ammonia- 1×10-36 .
Introduction:
pKa is an acid dissociation constant; it gives a quantitative measure of an acid’s strength in a solution. It shows the tendency of an acid to be able to lose a proton. The more positive the value of pKa, the smaller is the extent of dissociation.
